Answers to Frequently Asked Questions

This is a short list of questions that we at Hope Coming are frequently asked. It is provided to give general information only. If you have a specific question please contact us and we will work to provide you with an answer

What is Biblical Counseling?
Biblical counseling is developed with the assurance that in the Bible God has provided all of the information necessary o understand and address every personal issue of life. Our counselors are trained in theology so that they have a biblical "view" of people as personal beings made in the image of God. The counseling center does not promote a religion or church affiliations.

For what issues do you offer counseling?
The Bible claims to be sufficient for everything pertaining to life. Therefore, our counselors are available to discuss any personal problem. Biblical counseling does not deal with mental health! The vast majority of our requests involve relational issues such as marriage, parenting, divorce/ separation, pre-marital, etc. People are also counseled for anger, depression, anxiety, sexual matters, eating disorders, addictions, etc. If, in the opinion of the counselor, there is need for medical attention, a referral to an outside service is provided.

Are your counselors licensed?
Our Director is licensed as a Pastor, and most of the Counseling Staff here at HCM are licensed Pastors, but our counselors are not licensed by the state as Marriage, Family, Child Counselors (MFCC) or as any other type of counselor by any organization either public or private. We do not offer biblical counseling to compete with licensed counselors, psychologists, psychiatrists or physicians. Counselees are always advised to continue with any treatment or medication they are receiving from their medical care providers. However, Counselors at HCM do hold certification in Marriage & Family, and Child counseling through AACC (American Association of Christian Counselors)

What about confidentiality?
Our counselors seek to protect confidentiality to the extent appropriate and legally permissible, if, however situations arise where, in the counselor's opinion, there is a clear and present danger to the safety or welfare of the counselee, any other person, the church or the state, counselors are free to notify any appropriate person, agency or legal authority.
