The Iceberg

We use the iceberg because it is a perfect illustration of the way we learn to live life.

The tip of the iceberg represents the way we live when appearance and performance are the focus. Most of us are raised with this emphasis.

To live at the tip of the iceberg often feels easier since we usually know what people expect from us at this level. Yet, in the long run, it leaves us as shallow, superficial people since Scripture tells us that we were created for more than this.

In fact, the Lord reveals that His focus is on the personal part, that which dwells at the bottom of the iceberg. Thus, the biblical warning regarding life as an iceberg.

STANDARDS: Hope Coming Ministries is established on the belief that the Scriptures are the literal word of God and contain all of the relevant information necessary to help a person work through any issue of life. HCM provides individuals and couples time to talk through and sort out their struggles. Scripture emphasizes the heart or soul as that personal part of each person that is made in the image of God and then provides detailed information on how to examine our hearts. Confusion over heart issues leads to every non-organic problem faced by mankind today, especially the breakdown of families. Many, if not all of us, require help in sorting through the complexities of the belief system that controls our behavior and emotions. At HCM, we provide this help through our approach to biblical counseling, which we describe as a "whole Bible" approach to understanding what it means for us to be image-bearers who were created to be living in an environment dramatically different from where we are living today.

HCM is a non-profit, tax-exempt corporation, providing biblical counseling services on a donation basis, requesting a minimum donation of $30 per session. HCM counselors are not licensed by the State as counselors. HCM counselors have been trained and certified to offer professional biblical counseling and may be licensed by the State as Pastors. Counselees are always advised to continue any treatment or medication they are receiving from their medical care providers while receiving counseling at HCM.

HCM does not discriminate against any person for any reason.

However, counselees must be able to rationally reason through matters that are discussed. A person who is unable to be rational and who suffers from a mental illness is not a good candidate for counseling and will be referred.
